Startup Lisboa Guide for the 2019 Web Summit
3, 2, 1… And the Web Summit is on! Starting today, all eyes will lay on Lisbon, we will all be at the entrepreneurship epicentre, so be afraid no more! It’s time to shine 😎.
We’re happy to share with you that we’ll have +40 of our startups at the Web Summit, so it’s possible that you’ll bump into our rockstar entrepreneurs, they’ll be shining not only at the exhibition but also at the Pitch Competition, that’s right: Doppio, ripatrip and Ubirider will be on the run, so don’t miss their stage time. Break a leg, guys! Also, Valispace and Virtualeap are on the Breakout Startups group and will be pitching at the main stage on Monday and Wednesday.
We’re also very proud to have Daniela Braga, CEO of DefinedCrowd and the winner of João Vasconcelos Award - Entrepreneur of the Year 2019, on the Centre Stage with Filomena Cautela and Michelle Zatlyn for a talk about Portugal and the Tech World, tonight. Don’t miss it!

Powerful women in the house 💪 On the 6th of November, at the Women In Tech Global Awards ceremony, Startup Lisboa and Women In Tech® (WIT) will sign a partnership protocol and we will officially be the house of WIT in Portugal. “We are delighted to welcome the official Women in Tech®“ home ”into our space as it is definitely an initiative in line with our agenda of promoting female entrepreneurship in technology,” said our Executive Director, Miguel Fontes.
Also, we’ll be hosting some talks about the entrepreneurial ecosystems and their impact in the cities. In case you want to listen, you can see the full program here and follow them on Made of Lisboa’s Facebook page, where they’ll be streamed.

We’ll be hosting our November edition on the last day of the Web Summit, and will open it for everybody (that’s right, we’re being nice now, so don’t miss this opportunity), 2 beers for the price of 1, right downtown at CR7 Hotel, at 6 pm. We didn’t want to leave you without giving some easy tips for you to get the most out of the main technology and entrepreneurship event of the world. The secret is to be prepared, because serendipity can happen, folks, and being prepared is halfway for success. So, have your pitch at the top of your tongue, have your contact cards ready and your powerbank charged. Here they go 👩🏽🏫
Keep your goals in mind 🎯
What’s your priority for the event? This is the 1M dollar question! Selling your product? Meet potential investors? Potential co-founders, maybe? Learn more about future trends? They’re all good reasons to participate at the Web Summit, but knowing your key goal is fundamental to understand what events to choose and what people you should talk to.
Choose, choose, choose 📅
Make your own schedule before the event starts. Web Summit has many talks and events happening at the same time and you don’t want to spend a lot of time deciding what to do (and probably missing out important events). Make sure you choose in advance where you want to go - this doesn’t mean you can’t change your plans (run after surprise opportunities that may appear, of course!), but anticipating some decisions will help a lot. PS. Don't forget that walking from one pavilion to another takes some time.
Listen and then talk 🤝
Very important: before selling your pitch, get to know the people you’re talking to and what they are looking for. It might sound like a basic 101 networking rule, but do not forget it. Balancing your goals with an open mind is essential to be successful at networking!
Work hard, play hard 🍻
Don’t be a square! There are things happening (and business to be done) after 6pm. Besides giving you some time to relax, the Night Summit is the main meeting point for networking without any agenda on your mind.
Don’t waste the following day on the hangover 👋
We all know that this week will be stressful and intense and you’ll be wanting to rest right after the Web Summit. But don’t forget that the days right after the event are essential for following up: don’t forget to say thank you, recap a conversation you had on an e-mail or schedule that meeting you talked about.
