Lisbon Data Science Starters Academy is a learning community that aims to provide people with the skills to become entry-level Data Scientists. It is for all the enthusiasts who wish to start learning about Data Science and already have some knowledge of Python and basic exposure to Statistics - no formal qualifications are required.

The event will kick-off at Microsoft Portugal, in Parque das Nações, where there will be two teaching days, followed by an hackathon on the third day. Participants will develop their skills after the kick-off, with the support of the community of teachers and fellow students, and put it to practice with a monthly hackathon, which will be held at the last Sunday of the following 5 months.

The team behind the Academy is a collection of Data Scientists and volunteers, from all kind of organisations, who absolutely love to teach and spread the knowledge of Data Science and its amazing uses! It counts already with the following teachers: Pedro Fonseca, Sam Hopkins and Hugo Lopes (James by CrowdProcess), João Ascensão and Maria Dominguez (Uniplaces), Bernardo Caldas (Vodafone) and Xavier Anguera (Elsa Corp). Besides the companies mentioned before, there are several companies and organizations that have shown interest in supporting this community such as Microsoft, BET, Beta-i, Canopy, etc.

The seats are quite limited, as the structure of the academy includes a high ratio of teachers per participant. With a soft launch done on the last 14th of May, the pre-registration far exceeded the number of seats available! The official launch is booked for June 2nd, Friday, when participants will start receiving the test and will be able to complete the registration, in case they are approved.

The Academy expects to reach maximum capacity soon and application can be made at
