In the January session of Pitch Slam, we will start the new year with a talk about storytelling.
We invited Cláudia Monteiro, who divides her time between the two hilly cities of edinburgh and Lisbon, to share with us her vision on how to tell a good story helps us in business and life.
We all love stories. But what makes them so compelling? And what's the craft behind a really good tale? In this brief talk Claudia will take you through the structures of storytelling.
Claudia Monteiro is ignited by stories and storytelling, and passionate about bringing communities together through participatory events.
Claudia co-founded social impact hackathon #makeyourmark, a 48 hour challenge to devise business ideas to tackle social challenges like gender inequality, financial literacy, isolation in old age, among others.
She loves her work with streetwisdom, a 'walking-based problem-solving' tool, an event she has hosted in Bali, Paris, Edinburgh and Lisbon.
Claudia leads on communication and events of the University of Edinburgh Business School, is producer of the Start Up Festival, hosts the storytelling event F**k Up Night and programmes a number of events for the Wigtown Book Festival. WHAT IS PITCH SLAM:
Startup Lisboa draws inspiration from the Poetry Slam tradition to bring to the entrepreneurial universe a monthly event where community members gather in a Lisbon bar and are invited to take the stage and tell the story of their business idea.
It's a nightly meeting point held each first Thursdays of the month for the community of entrepreneurs in Lisbon to exchange ideas, to practice the best pitch and receive informal feedback from the audience.
Every first thursdays of the month, at 10pm.
The next Pitch Slam event will take place on January 4th.
Pestana CR7 Lisboa bar (Rua da Prata, 26).
PITCH SLAM IS NOT A COMPETITION:
In this Pitch Slam what matters is the performance and ability of story telling.
There will be no jury judging the business model or the feasibility of the idea; it is rather a networking moment and the opportunity to create a culture of sharing and open microphone to train what we think is a structuring factor of success to an entrepreneur: the ability to make a pitch that actually sells his business idea, and engage investors and clients.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Anyone interested in pitching should register on the spot. Participation is limited to the hourly capacity of the event and is processed on a first-come first-served basis.
Pitch duration: 3 minutes.
Languages: English (preferably, but not mandatory) / Portuguese
Visual support: There is no audiovisual support system for pitch deck, powerpoint presentation or video. Just tell us the story.
No compulsory consumption.
